Film Screening – Tsumu

The documentary film Tsumu follows two young friends, Lars and Eino, in Tasiilaq, East Greenland. Together with their friends, they find a refuge in theater, music, and creativity while trying to find their place in a world marked by big dreams and heavy experiences.

The title Tsumu means "Where are you going?" in East Greenlandic, a question that permeates the film. Should the young people seek new opportunities outside Greenland, or stay and fight for the place and people they love? The film follows a generation living with the consequences of suicide, alcohol abuse, and sexual abuse, while also feeling a responsibility to create change. They may be the last generation able to break the patterns and pass on hope. Lars finds strength in music, drawing inspiration from artists like Billie Eilish and MØ. He experiments with makeup and performs as a drag queen in the local community. Together with Eino and their friends, he uses creativity to create a space where there is room to dream and imagine a different future. Tsumu is a story about being young in a place where past traumas are still present, and where the question of staying or leaving never has a simple answer. The screening is connected to the current exhibition at Kunsten, Inuuteq Storch – Heart Beats Hope. While Inuuteq Storch’s photographs turn the camera towards the people and life he is part of, Tsumu follows a group of young people in Tasiilaq and the choices, hopes, and challenges shaping their everyday lives.
