Film Screening: White Cube

In connection with the exhibition by Frida Orupabo, Kunsten presents the documentary film White Cube (2020) by Dutch artist Renzo Martens. Before the screening, an art mediator will provide a brief introduction to the film and its relation to Frida Orupabo's artistic practice.

White Cube follows artist Renzo Martens and the artist collective Cercle d'Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC), composed of plantation workers from a former Unilever plantation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through art, they create a new economic model where income from the sale of their works is used to buy back the land and restore areas previously exploited for monoculture. The film addresses colonial legacy, power, representation, and the role of art in society. These themes are also central to Frida Orupabo's art, where historical images and narratives are reinterpreted to make space for voices and experiences that have too often been overlooked.
