My Great-Grandfather's War

Jens-Christian Hansen shares the story of his great-grandfather, who fought and died as a South Jutlander in World War I, and how the South Jutlanders' efforts contributed to the reunification with Denmark.

Approximately 35,000 South Jutlanders participated in World War I on the German side, with many losing their lives or returning home deeply scarred. Although they fought in a war that was not their own, their efforts contributed to the reunification with Denmark in 1920. In this lecture, Jens-Christian Hansen from Vendsyssel Historical Museum shares his personal family history about his great-grandfather, Knud Petersen, who fell on the Western Front. The lecture is based on the TVSyd series "My Great-Grandfather's War."
